Throwback Thursday: Disco
Who doesn't love the Episode of Sex and the City where Carrie falls on the runway. Who doesn't love Sex and the City for that matter? However the finale of this episode is tops in my book. The main reason being the choice of soundtrack. Cheryl Lynn's Got to Be Real is by far, my number one favorite Disco song. I love disco, for the most part. My sister and I rented Studio 54 in college and from there, there was no turning back. This was right around the time that I worked at Abercrombie and Fitch on my college breaks, where they played If You Could Read My Mind by Stars On 54, also on the Studio 54 soundtrack. Needless to say, I was hooked.
I sort of forgot about my affection for Disco until last night when I watched this week's episode of Glee, Saturday Night Glee-ver, and my longing for being up all night at Studio 54 crept right back into my soul :).
Another disco favorite, Best of My Love, by the Emotions, just so happens to be a song that I played faithfully for my then boyfriend, now husband on the jukebox, at our local watering hole, when we first graduated college and lived together. It remains one of 'our' songs to this day, although he may adamantly deny it! :)
So there you have it, a throwback to 3 amazing disco songs. Do you have a favorite?? Please share!
TTFN!!!

Make You Feel My Love
While listening to Pandora Radio lately, I heard Adele singing a long time favorite song, originally written by Bob Dylan, Make You Feel My Love. I never really listened to the lyrics the song, or tried for that matter, I just know I loved it. Now that I have children, I get it. I tried to search for who Bobby wrote the lyrics for but came up with nada. I would like to think he wrote it for his children, because that is what it makes me think of. This song makes me want to cradle and rock my kids until they are 40! My son has been having a bit of a wild streak lately and we are really butting heads, but that is for another day!
This song really makes me step back and appreciate this time we have together that we will never get back. I wish he could know I feel this way instead of the disciplinarian I portray in reality. Someday he can look back and read this and appreciate my motives. Check out the wonderful lyrics here. I also found an amazing duet between Alicia Keys and Adele which I have included for your viewing pleasure. TTFN!!

I love you my little angels!
No, there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

T.G.I.F.
Driving to work this morning listening to my music blasting, I was reminded of Fridays long ago. Fridays usually went either of two ways. 1. Happy Hour then early bedtime (because we all know when you are young and single Happy Hour turns into much, much more) or 2. Nap after work then either off to the bar or my husband, then boyfriend, and I ALWAYS had people over to hang out and get our drink on.
Fridays nowadays don't really go that way. I am lucky if I can keep my head off the pillow after the kids go to bed, and if there is a glass of wine involved forget about it.
So driving to work made me think about the days of hanging out, listening to music and dancing. Once I became acquainted with iTunes dance parties were usually on the evening's agenda. Certain friends even had solo dance parties if no one else was interested ;), you know who you are, NYE, ehem! I love my more grown up life now, but this morning made me long for those days......There are 5 current songs that make me want to get up and dance my ass off. I mean really get my Jersey Turnpike on, here they are:
1. Maroon 5 Moves Like Jagger
2. Pitbull Give Me Everything
3. LMFAO Party Rock Anthem
4. Katy Perry Last Friday Night (obviously!)
5. Cobra Starship You Make Me Feel Good
**Bonus**
Britney Spears I Wanna Go (can't leave Brit Brit out!)
Also a little side note, since we are talking about music. I have recently seen the movie Country Strong and despite the reviews, I really, really enjoyed it. I liked the story and the music, particularly, a song called A Little Bit Stronger sung by Leighton Meester, for all of you Gossip Girl fans. It doesn't make me want to dance, but it is 'turn it up and belt it out' in the car worthy :) I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I am totally ordering myself this shirt.....TTFN and TGIF!

My New Anthem
The Dog Days Are Over. You must play this song on the playlist to the right as you read this. It's the last song on the playlist. It will make you feel amazing. As soon as I heard this song, I knew my day would come and today is it. Last week we signed the lease for a new house that has everything on our checklist.Today we closed on our house and did our walk through of the new abode. Now I have a clear picture of where everything will be placed :). Yesterday we adopted a new family member and I cried the whole ride home. I still have 3 more weeks of summer. That will include packing, unpacking, housebreaking, corralling, visiting Denver, and settling into a new home. Yowza! Busy, but so, so exciting. I finally feel like a semi-normal person again. This past year was ROUGH. But the dog days are over..........
Florence + The Machine
Happiness, hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with a drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run
Run fast for your mother run fast for your father
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind you
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses
'Cause here they come
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/f/florence_and_the_machine/dog_days_are_over.html ]And I never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had
And what was left after that too. oh.
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back
Struck from a great height
By someone who should know better than that
The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses
'Cause here they come
Run fast for your mother and fast for your father
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind you
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses
Because here they come
The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses
Because here they come

Music Edit and Memorial Day
Hi everyone! Memorial Day weekend was really great. We had so much fun visiting friends in PA and you know what? I drank responsibly and didn't make a fool out of myself! Then an impromptu stop at my parents for an afternoon of swimming and food. The ride back Sunday evening was a little dicey. Our son was out like a light, but our 16 month old daughter is the only child I have ever known who does not sleep in the car. She grunted and groaned until almost 10 pm. She didn't fall asleep until i got in the back seat with her and put her head against her blanket and patted it! She hates car rides and now, so do we. We were so spoiled with our son. I could plan road trips with his nap schedule and it would be awesome! Now, I seriously don't want to go anywhere.
Memorial Day itself was great as well. More swimming for everyone. Our son and one of his friends frolicked in the water entertaining each other. It is so nice to finally to get to this part where they don't need your undivided attention and would rather play with their friends. Don't get me wrong, I love to play with my son, but I welcome the time where he is engaged with a more age-appropriate playmate. He and my husband got a little too much sun and are a bit crispy today. We will have to remember to re-apply next time. I also can not believe that I didn't take one single picture this whole weekend. Oh well!
Also, I have updated the music player to turn the auto-play off. So if you want to listen to it, you will have to manually press play. Sorry (to those of you who like it) and for those of you who didn't, you can thank me later. I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! TTFN!

Music
I have decided to go against what virtually everyone has told me about adding music to your blog. I know 99.9% of people who read blogs say it is a huge nuisance and they dont' care for it. However, if you know me at all, I really don't conform to what others say. I happen to enjoy musical selections that play on a blog that I read a lot. That being said, I have added a player to the sidebar from Playlist.com that you can turn off if it annoys you. Music is a big part of me and I use it as a backdrop in my life (does that make sense?). I look forward to sharing some of my favorite music with you. I will continue to update and add songs to reflect music that helps to tell the story of my life. Maybe you will love one of them and it will inspire you. Maybe you will turn it off and never hear them. Whatever the case may be, they will be there for your enjoyment. TTFN!

Music My Friends Don't Know I Listen To
First and foremost the name of the post comes from a music folder with the same title that I found on my brother's computer (I won't mention any names). In this folder I found Britney Spear's Overprotected and my world was complete.
I totally forgot that I had made this playlist on Facebook forever ago! UNTIL, while riding in the car with my sister, I asked her to stop scanning when Pearl Jam Radio came up. She was shocked that I would say such a thing. I actually DO like music other than Top 40 and 90's Teeny Bopper hits. To prove my point here is the playlist I made about 2 years ago:

Got To Be Real by Cheryl Lynn
Now, there are definitely a few you would have guessed, but Old Crow Medicine Show and Jim Croce? You had no idea..........

Silly Willies
Getting back to the subject, today in school we had a few moments before lunch where I had nothing planned (shocking) so we explored this CD, which has one of our favorite movement songs, The Mack Chicken Dance is awesome (song list and music samples). It's a medley of the Chicken Dance, Its Bitsy Spider (not eensy weensy, which I don't understand why people say that and find it infuriating) and Head Shoulders Knees and Toes. We found that we also now love Silly Willies! Great beat and fun moves for the littles.
Is it me or are these guys (or at least their pose) a little reminiscent of the Ambiguously Gay Duo on SNL??
